The Challenges

By age 14, girls are dropping out of sports at TWICE the rate of boys. Girls have FEWER outdoor opportunities than boys. Girls experience bullying, discrimination, and social isolation more than boys. Girls lack strong, confident, female athletes as role models.

Our Response to the challenges faced by girls?

About GRO girl GRO

GROgirlGRO is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to empowering girls and young women in Tucson, Vail and surrounding communities through mountain bike riding, hiking, and outdoor adventures. Our programming is firmly grounded in adventuring AND giving back to our trails and community.

Our Impact

Supporting girls to become outdoor leaders in a variety of inclusive outdoor adventures has been incredible! Friendships have been formed, skills have been learned, mentors have been created!

We are so grateful to the Arizona Trail Association (www.aztrail.org) for creating space over the past 18 months to refine programming! We are stoked to continue to collaborate with the ATA and many other partners in Pima County!

Since February 2023:

  • We have had the honor of serving 77 girls and their families. We are grateful for the opportunity to make positive impact in their lives and look to continuing to do so in future.

  • We have had 65 outdoor adventures together!

  • We have given back to our trails community with over 96 hours of volunteer time!

Our Programs
All of our programs provide leadership and mentorship opportunities to help girls and young women develop confidence, strength, and resilience.

GRO girl GRO Adventures (6 weeks)

Our after school weekly adventure sessions give girls in 3rd - 8th grades the opportunity to explore the outdoors, learn new skills, and build confidence as they mountain bike, hike, give back to the community and/or trails and support a local business. Our trained coaches provide guidance and mentorship in a safe, supported, inclusive environment to help EVERY girl achieve their personal best. See below for adventure dates!

Mentoring Workshops and Camps

Planning is under way for our Mentoring Workshops! MENTOR girl MENTOR will provide opportunities for middle and high school girls to develop leadership skills, build self-esteem, and learn to work effectively with others. Through a combination of outdoor activities and small group instruction, girls will gain the tools and knowledge they need to succeed in all areas of life.

Community Outreach

We will continue to expand our contributions to our community. Our Community Outreach program provides mentorship and support to girls in underserved communities. Through partnerships with local schools, organizations, and community partners, we will be able to provide access to our programs and resources to those who need it most.
